The Basics of the Law of Expectations

 

There are laws that govern our success in business and in life. We must observe the power of these laws and use them to help propel us forward and help us get what we want. This business and life law is particularly useful in this area. It is the Law of Expectations.

The Law of Expectations says, “Whatever you expect, with confidence becomes your own self-fulfilling prophecy.”

This business and life law makes you your own fortune-teller. You set the course of your own life and success by the way you think and talk about how situations are going to turn out. When you confidently expect good things to happen, good things usually happen to you. When you expect negative things to happen, you are usually not disappointed, here comes the disaster you confidently predicted. Because of the efficacy of this law, it is important whether or not you take the optimistic or pessimistic attitude in your life, career or business!

This law not only singularly affects you but also the people around you. What you expect from people determines your attitude toward them more than any other factor to be considered. People will also reflect that attitude you take right back at you. If you transmit out a positive attitude, usually that is what is coming back at you. If you transmit out negativity, that is what is reflected right back to you. What you send out is what comes back in. Your expectations of your boss, your staff, your customers and your future tend to come true. Your expectations exert a powerful influence on people and events, so much care should be taken with this powerful law.

Things you can do:

  1. Start with yourself and your thoughts. Does your thinking tend to be positive or negative? Your thoughts become your words and your words become your actions. When this happens, the law of expectations kicks in and reflects back at you what you have sent out.

  3. Have good assumptions of others. Assume from the start that your friends, family, and staff have good intentions toward you. Assume they want to do a good job. Try to have the law of expectations to work for you rather than against you. If things do go wrong, don’t over-react, simply sit down and talk it out and start again.

  5. Tell your spouse and children you believe in them, you think they are wonderful, you love them, and you are proud of them. Have positive expectations of your own family and cheerfully communicate those expectations.

  7. Practice the same behaviors and actions in #3 with your staff and co-workers. The very best managers and leaders have positive expectations and are quick to deal with any negativity that shows up.

  9. Have the very best expectations of yourself. Think of your unlimited potential. Have the thought that you can accomplish anything you set goals to do. Think that your only limitation is your own imagination. Your greatest moments and achievements lie ahead of you and not behind. Everything up to now has been a preparation for a wonderful future filled with success and joy.
