I was just thinking this morning about something.
Do you realize what a person says has the power to build someone up or to tear them down? It’s really a powerful responsibility, and yet, we take it so lightly many times. We don’t give enough thought and preparation as far as how our communication will effect the other person.
Entire nations have been inspired to action by a few, powerfully chosen, simple words put together. Famous, memorable phrases like these we label quotes. Likewise, countless children have been deeply hurt due to derogatory words perhaps spoken to them by parents. You have within you the powerful force of communication. You can create powerful things in your life and in the lives of others if you take communication seriously and use this force to help yourself and others.
Communicate on purpose. Of course, you may occasionally say something off the top of your head and from time to time, we joke and kid around. This really should be the exception and not the rule. Being an effective leader, using the force of communication, you should be very purposeful about the way you communicate.
Decide what kind of communication will enhance your life and the lives of those you influence. Plan your steps for communicating in that manner. Knowing what you want to accomplish and how you want to communicate is vital. In upcoming articles, I’ll discuss the fundamentals you must learn and practice in order to gain mastery and become a world-class communicator.
Happy Good Friday!
